Yondaime Hokage, the Fourth Hokage, was largely a well-renowned title and the man behind it eluded the fans for far too long. He was known to have blond hair, strikingly similar to that of Naruto and from the way Jiraiya lauded his exploits left all the fans in splits and speculations about his identity dotted the early part of Naruto Shippuden. Minato Namikaze, the famed shinobi who merited on-sight flee orders was a force to be reckoned with.

So how strong is Minato Namikaze exactly? Without further ado, let us dig in.

This should be an interesting one, bear with me as I explain. Don’t fret, those who love Minato Namikaze, the Fourth Hokage (including me), I’ll give the man his due, judging him fairly.

Chakra reserves: Minato Namikaze

In terms of life force and chakra reserves, he wasn’t even close to Hashirama, Tobirama and safe to assume Madara. Later in the series, Naruto goes on to surpass even Hashirama in chakra reserves so he joins the bandwagon as well.

One might ask for a valid evidence to back this up and let me draw an excerpt from Manga :

Hashirama Strength
Hashirama Strength

We know Hashirama was beyond the control even with the usage of his cells; Tobirama, the Second Hokage, could not be controlled either, given that there be no usage of the cells.

It is easy to see that Third Hokage and Fourth Hokage are both meek spectators. You cannot argue that he (Minato Namikaze) didn’t deem any action exigent, as it really was an emergency. If he was capable enough, he would have acted.

But this is not to say that his chakra reverses weren’t remarkable. He could enter sage mode and he definitely had remarkable reserves.

His chakra reserves were in fact far too much for your average shinobi, he could teleport a tailed beast after all :

But suffice to say that after his fight with Obito, and after teleporting the tailed beast bomb and Kyuubi, he was arguably on his last legs (both Minato and Kushina).

In fact, he had to gather chakra before teleporting Kyuubi away whereas Tobirama, for example, did not have to.

So he really was not powerful in the traditional sense (as compared to many other characters already mentioned in terms of chakra reserves and life force), only to say, because his power lies in his abilities.

He really doesn’t need abundant resources, like say, a vast range of techniques, because he always banks on his speed, and tends to end his affairs rather quickly :

He will definitely kill you quicker than anyone else (if he can); if you don’t believe me, you’ll find this interesting :

They were both outclassed completely.

Had it not been for the orders to flee, these two Bee and Fourth Raikage were done for. Obviously, he was made to walk away to protect these characters later on or they’d be dead meat. Now, these were by any measure, two Kage level shinobis.

Now think of anyone (other than Sasuke, Naruto, Hashirama etc.) who can take these two simultaneously in such a short while!

It is safe to assume that Jiraiya has seen a lot in his lifetime, he was trained by the Third Hokage after all and he traveled his entire life; and he remarked without hesitation that Minato was unparalleled.

Safe to assume that this was true, as Kakashi and Fourth Raikage both agree to this.

But a true test of his strength and his intelligence even more so was how he managed both nine-tails and Obito, how he took possession of Kyuubi, defeated Obito and even captured Kyuubi.

To think that such a large group of ninjas, including elite Jonins and Chunins, could do squat against Obito’s technique. It was Kakashi, Yamato, Naruto, Sakura, Sai, and God knows who, there are so many I can’t even name them all; they couldn’t land a punch.

Not just that, it took Bee, Kakashi, Naruto, and Guy to analyze Obito’s space-time ninjutsu whereas Minato countered it in minutes! (I know Obito was more powerful later on, but I am talking about a counter to Kamui).

From all these facts what we can comment is that there are shinobi who can beat him (Madara, Hashirama, Tobirama, Naruto, Sasuke, and maybe I missed some) but they can be counted on your fingers.

He deserves all the acclaim for his skills because he is very skilled, with an element of remarkable speed and a rare intelligence. I can say with certainty he was the strongest of his generation!

So what do you think? Let us know in the comment section.
