Google is working hard to bring the Google Pixel 2 lineup in the smartphones market as soon as possible. Rumors and leaks have already started growing in number.
The original Google Pixel smartphones, the first ever smartphones which were designed completely by Google, were outstanding devices owing to great build quality and a fluid stock Android software experience which makes us expect so much from their successor smartphones as well.
That being said, the original Pixel lineup was nowhere near perfect. The lack of water resistance and a pretty generic design are just a few areas Google might want to work upon (The high price was an eyesore as well, but we can not hope the Google Pixel 2 series to be any cheaper)
Leaving the past behind, let’s talk about what’s to come – the Google Pixel 2 series.
Google Pixel 2: Who is going to manufacture the smartphones?
Earlier rumors hinted HTC to be the manufacturer of the Pixel 2 lineup which also made the previous generation of the Pixel lineup. New rumors, however, claim that it is going to be LG which will manufacture the Pixel 2 smartphones.
Time to say no to bezels, Infinity…and Beyond
Google Pixel 2: How many devices are we going to see?
According to a report from a trusted developer who has, apparently, personally used the device, the Google Pixel 2 is most expected to come in two different variants – Google Pixel 2 Walleye and Google Pixel 2 Taimen.
The smartphone will be available in two sizes, the Walleye will be the smaller one and the Taimen will be the larger one among the two.
Google Pixel 2: Specifications
The Pixel 2 lineup is going to see some amazing stuff as far as specifications are concerned. For starters, it is said to feature two front-facing stereo speakers which would, however, deprive us of a 3.5 mm headphone jack. You would have to plug in your headphones with the help of an adapter which would come bundled with the devices. One more interesting thing that is rumored is the fact that the Pixel 2 devices won’t be following the general notion of the current flagships and we won’t be seeing dual cameras at the back of the devices.
The devices are also said to be dust and water resistant which is a welcome feature for all of us.
Google Pixel 2 Walleye specifications
The Walleye is expected to be the successor to the smaller Google Pixel. The following are the assumed specifications of Walleye:
- a 4.97-inch display with FHD resolution
- Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor
- 4 GB of RAM
- 64 GB of internal storage
Google Pixel 2 Taimen specifications
Taimen or the Google Pixel XL 2 is going to be the successor to the Google Pixel XL. The following are the assumed specifications of Taimen:
- a 5.99-inch 1440 OLED display
- Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 clocked at 2.45GHz
- 4 GB of RAM
- 128 GB of internal storage
Google Pixel 2: launch date
As of now, there is no official news about when the Pixel 2 smartphones will be launched. However, if you believe in patterns, one might expect the Google Pixel 2 devices to be launched somewhere in the month of October (The original Pixel smartphones were announced and later on sold in the month of October only)
Google Pixel 2: Price
The price of the Pixel smartphones was one thing nobody would be too fond of. They were nowhere budget friendly, truth be told. The Pixel launched at around $649 for the 32 GB variant and $749 for the 128 GB one, whereas the XL variant was sold at $769 for the 32 GB variant and $869 for the 128 GB one.
It is quite natural for us to wish that the Pixel 2 smartphones be somewhat affordable. This, however, is not going to happen and both the Google Pixel 2 smartphones are sure to carry a premium price tag.
If, however, Google somehow manages to keep the prices under check, things might get real interesting. It would be nice to see the Pixel 2 devices competing against the likes of the Samsung Galaxy S8 lineup.
Google Pixel 2: Final verdict
These are early days for the Google Flagships and everyone is just assuming things. One thing is for sure though, the Google Pixel 2 devices will surely end the year 2017 with a bang. No matter how costly the smartphones be, if they deliver well, they will always find a market.
We will keep you posted if anything new pops up about the Pixel 2 devices. In the meantime, you can follow the Google Pixel 2 Twitter channel to stay updated.
